Important notes:
- Some companies are counting an annual contribution to a charity as their donation to this cause. In other words, they are taking credit for a donation that they would have made in any case. Where I see them, I DO NOT include them on the list. CHS and US Bank - this means you.
- Another act I find questionable is giving money to yourself. Dan Friedkin, head of Gulf States Toyota, is donating a generous $1 million to the Friedkin Disaster Relief Fund. This is part of a total donation of over $3 million being claimed by Toyota.
- Some of the corporate donations are just for employees and dealers who have been affected. Since these are not general funds, I have been trying to exclude them.
- I continue to exclude employer claims for matching employee donations. While I expect all these numbers will be achieved, at this time there is no solid information so I am not crediting the company with the match contribution.
- I have altered my recording of in-kind donations to reflect companies making them who have not released a dollar amount. That column now reads “Yes” in those cases.
