Friday, October 31, 2003   Happy Halloween! FEARS Three Murders in 24 Hours Rochester Police are investigating their third homicide within a 24-hour period. The latest murder occurred at 1311 East Main Street around 8:30 Thursday night. Rochester Police Chief, Robert Duffy said officers found a 32-year-old man shot in the head execution style. "It's the very frustrating part of these situations for everyone involved. It is a problem we are clearly trying to get a handle on and address but again it's very frustrating. We go three or so with nothing and then we get three in the course of 24 hours," said Duffy. This latest shooting is the third to occur since 9 p.m. Thursday, when Abdulaziz Ahmed, 30, was shot to death by two masked men who entered his Hudson Avenue Mini-Mart. A short time later police responded to a shots fired call in an alley off of West Main Street. When officers arrived there, they discovered Jamel Clinkscales, 29, shot to death inside a running vehicle. No arrests have been made in either of these cases. Duffy is asking anyone with information to come forward. There have been 48 murders in the city of Rochester this year. More Americans have been killed in Rochester, New York in the last 24 hours than in Iraq. The City Police Department brought in Coalition Forces (State Police and Sheriff's deputies) this summer to crack down but lack of funds prevented this program from continuing. Mayor Bill Johnson, who is not an orangutan, would point out that killings are down from the 65-70 plus at the start of his administration. It appears that the Johnson administration is in a quagmire, unable to stop the killing and unable to afford enough police. Its Coalition partners, short on funding themselves, cannot offer any more assistance. It's time to abandon Rochester, to allow its people to work out their lives in their own way.
