Hurricane Post

From Southern Maryland, my brother writes:
Here is my last update. Honestly, the people we have left live in the swamps right at the tip of the state. Also, the houses still under water don't have power. Other than that, we're pretty well done. The police that have been guarding the buildings (because of all the threats) have gone. We don't release our contractors, usually, until everyone has power but I think a lot of them have been "loaned" to Pepco. Sometime I'll tell you of the projects I'm working on where we tie in Global Positioning, mapping, inventory, etc. It'll really help provide better service.

The last of our outages are people living in the sticks. I was told about one case where they had to string 2miles of line to reach one house. That crap takes time.

XXXXXXX is now working toward the outer edges of its system. Progress at this time is slow because we are encountering significant damage to lines where a very few accounts are affected.  Other areas are presenting a challenge because crews are encountering low-lying areas filled with standing water.

The vast majority of XXXXXXX and contract crews are on-site in St. Marys County. Except for unique circumstances--locations requiring county inspection or approval by the county Emergency Operations Center--customers who have not yet had their power restored should have electricity soon.  Crews will be working Thursday night to restore service to as many customers as possible.  Please understand that XXXXXXX's poles and power lines have suffered significant damage and repairs take time.

Calvert, Charles, and Prince Georges Counties

All known outages in Calvert, Charles, and Prince Georges counties have been restored. If you are still without power, please call our Outage Hotline..
