The State of the Union Address

I watched most of the address. I agree with some commentators that the foreign policy portion came across as firmer and stronger. Bush seemed to be more determined and confident.

I had tears in my eyes as he talked about AIDS in Africa, and the students of Iran. Two issues of great importance that I had wondered if the Administration even cared about.

Two phrases that resonated with me:

the best and fairest way to make sure Americans have that money is not to tax it away in the first place

If this is not evil, then evil has no meaning. I actually heard him say "If Saddam is not evil", though the printed text reads as the preceding bolded item.

Several other thoughts. Curious how Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman got front row seats, right behind the Joint Chiefs. Ted Kennedy fell asleep, as far as I could tell. John Kerry swallowed a jar of prunes before the speech, based on his facial expression. Who was the moke sitting next to Christy Whitman, that she had to keep nudging to applaude? And, who's the midget in the Joint Chiefs? And, the servicemen in the cheap seats, obviously told to sit at attention and not applaude or register any expression, though they finally broke loose a little towards the end. And, didn't that Ugandan AIDS guy have a good time?
